I agree. Read them twenty years ago and they made a lasting impression. Requires a bit of patience to get into, and quite unlike any other sci fi I have read. Currently on my list to read again.

I liked the Martha Quest novels best. I've read most of her, but I have to admit that her sci-fi cycle defeated me when I was about halfway through.

I've read quite a bit of her work over the years. I'd suggest the Canopus in Argos series along with the Martha Quest (Children of Violence) Pentalogy. Its been quite a while since I read them but I remember the politics in the Martha Quest books became tedious at times but still a good read.
