Looking for SF eBooks

Hi fellow (e)readers....

Got a new Kindle PW and now I have to fill it with books.
Since I am a bit picky about SF I thought maybe I ask the specialists here for some recommendations.
Thanks a lot in advance for any help!

What I would like to read is SF like from Alastair Reynolds (e.g. Chasm City), Jeff Somers or cyberpunky oriented SF like Newromancer from William Gibbson.
I am not much into books including diffent shades (shapes? whetever ) of alien species.
I prefer more the - cyberpunk, humans in their dark or bright future time, cleverly constructed stories and explicit words - kind of books.

Would be great if someone could point me to such or similar content filled books.
Again, thanks to all your support and efforts.

Regards and happy page-turning (or 'page-thumbing')....

Do a search in the reading recommendations sub-forum. There are tons of SF/F recommendations.

@bernie: thanks a lot for the recommendation.
Will look at it.

Regarding the search.... well, sure I did already - or better - tried. But since SF/F is a wide range with lots and lots of book here, I thought some forum members with similar taste or books of my taste in their 'library' could point me to some.

regards.....

My suggestion would be Ian McDonald. The Dervish House was nominated for a Hugo a couple of years ago. It's about a fairly near future Istanbul, with a large (maybe too large) cast of characters and plenty of tech speculation. He's written some others looking at other parts of the world in a similar way.

There's also Paolo Backgalupi's The Windup Girl, which is kind of playing in the same area, and won a Hugo. Another look at a culturally-different urban future.

I'm not that sure what you're after, but those are the books that come to mind.

I like Walter Jon Williams. I just finished reading Hardwired by him and its mini sequel SolipSystem. Its cyberpunk from around the same time Gibson was coming out with Neuromancer but it takes a different spin on the genre. I found it have much better characters and character development and better action scenes in addition to having much better prose.

so far I can only talk about the reader.

seems like I was lucky. got one without all those screen issues you hear often.
have to say, I love it. I had the sony in my hands as well as kobo glo. to be honest, I like the surface and the size of the PW more like the others. it just feels good in my hands.
also the light is lower than the kobo's light. in a really dark room (e.g. better half is already sleeping etc.) I only use the setting 1 for the light. the kobo is already brighter in its lowest light setting. so for me kobo glo would be tooo bright in really dark rooms.
everything else about the PW is also OK for me. stable and easy to use. thanks to calibre I am also not always bound to the big A..zon company.
to make it short.... great reader for me.

will give feedback about the books when I am done with them

again, thanks a lot and I am happy to found this great forum.

regards...

I quite liked Fate's Mirror as a cyberpunk novel. It was fun, pretty light-weight in a good way and it moved very well. It's an indie author duo writing under the name M. H. Mead. It's $4.59 at Amazon which might seem a bit high for indie authors but I consider it worth it.

Can't go much further without giving a shout out to one of my favourite authors, Neal Stephenson. Both Snow Crash and Diamond Age fit the cyberpunk categories. I liked the former more than the latter. Both are available at Amazon.

Back to indies, I liked The Bridge Chronicles by Gary A. Ballard. They are pretty short novels with the second not as good as the first and third, but I appreciated the slickness of the main character - the traditional cyberpunk anti-hero. The first book is only $0.99 at Amazon so it's a small price to test out the writing. If you want to just leap in, the trilogy comes in an omnibus edition for $5.25.

I will second Ian McDonald although I've only read one of his offerings, River of Gods. But I loved that. I understand most of his books have a sort of cyberpunk feel, so dig in.

I really like cyberpunk, but because I like so many other genres I haven't read a huge amount of it. So I'm only recommending books that I've actually read and enjoyed. There might be wider read cyberpunkers here that can guide you to wider choices.

Richard K. Morgan's Takeshi Kovacs series of novels comes to mind as far as being dark and "explicit words". The first book in the series is Altered Carbon.

Hi everyone.

Thanks a lot for all your recommendations.
I jumped into 'hardwired' already and from the first 40-something pages, I like it a lot. great recommendation.

Also dowloaded the 'brave new world series' book. short stories in there but really worth reading. started to read the first. seems also interesting.

Regarding 'snow crash' and 'diamond age' love them. already got them paper-based.

I also love the Jeff Somers series with Avery Cates (5 books...). Could not stop reading them all and re-read them already. Just in case someone who has similar interests not knowing those books so far.

Going to look into all your other recommendations. One after the other. Really appreciate all your efforts. Seems like my PW got really something to do

regards to all of you.
