Not a real cliff-hangar per se, but it is definitely not resolved with this book.

Has anyone mentioned that A Long Way to a Small and Angry Planet is once again $1.99 at Amazon?

I've got the opposite situation with a time travel series I've been following. 10 books were projected but everything seems to be resolved after the 9th book, so where will the author go now?

I can assure you Illinois has never needed alien invaders to destroy it. We are doing just fine without their help. They're a bunch of amateurs, anyway.

Unholy Land by Lavie Tidhar is $1.99 on Amazon.com.

This is a PKD-ish alternate history tale where the Jewish state was founded in Uganda.

Quote:
Lior Tirosh is a semi-successful author of pulp fiction, an inadvertent time traveler, and an ongoing source of disappointment to his father.

Tirosh has returned to his homeland in East Africa. But Palestina—a Jewish state founded in the early 20th century—has grown dangerous. The government is building a vast border wall to keep out African refugees. Unrest in Ararat City is growing. And Tirosh’s childhood friend, trying to deliver a warning, has turned up dead in his hotel room. A state security officer has identified Tirosh as a suspect in a string of murders, and a rogue agent is stalking Tirosh through transdimensional rifts—possible futures that can only be prevented by avoiding the mistakes of the past.

A couple of interesting books on sale. Note: They are both Open Road, so they'll likely be marked down every two weeks or so

The Compleat Traveller in Black by John Brunner is $1.99 at Amazon US

John Brunner does Fantasy

Quote:
In The Compleat Traveller in Black, six linked tales, comprising one of Brunner’s rare ventures into fantasy, relate the legend of a man with many names, who travels the world with a staff made of light and performs his eternal duty by bringing order to a world filled with chaos. What he dispenses is always asked for but not always welcomed by the recipients. And the world becomes, step by slow step, a better place for those who remain.

The Coming by Joe Haldeman is $1.99 at Amazon US

Quote:
Despite technological advancements designed to alleviate the stress of everyday life, Earth at the midpoint of the twenty-first century is plagued by environmental crisis and manmade catastrophe. Tensions among the nations of Europe bring the threat of World War III closer by the hour as their lands are also ravaged by devastating climatic upheaval, the result of centuries of unchecked ozone depletion and global warming.

Meanwhile, in an America whose population has been sedated by DNA-specific drugs and virtual porn, homosexuality and free sexual expression have been outlawed by a repressive federal government led by an inept media-star president.

But everything changes on October 1, 2054, when Professor Aurora Bell, an astrophysicist at the University of Florida, picks up a message from deep space: “We’re coming . . .”
