Firmware updates
Brought my first Ereader yesterday (kobo glo HD) was reading on this forum about firmware updates!
My kobo took a good 5mins to start up as in download, what should the firmware be?

Your ereader should automatically upgrade to the latest firmware when you register it with Kobo.

If you don't want to register it, and you know what to do, there are threads here on how to fake the registration and sideload the firmware yourself.

Unless you understand the dangers of sideloading the firmware, I'd recommend that you don't do that, and just use the normal automatic firmware update process.

The five minutes of startup may have been downloading and installing the latest firmware. What is the current firmware on the device?

To see your firmware version, go to "settings" - touch the 3 horizontal lines on the top right of the main screen, then select the gear. From the list you will see, select "Device Information". The firmware is the Software version. My Aura currently has 3.17.3.

Do remember that firmware is not released at the same time to all affiliates; some affiliates lag a long time behind others.

If it's important to you to have the newest then you have to manually install the f/w.
