New Media Presentation of Orwell's 1984

Hello,

My name is Margaret Noble and I am an artist and teacher who works in media art. I am writing to share a project I am developing which is inspired by an old vinyl recording of Orwell's novel 1984. As an artist who uses samples and media, I have found Orwell's text and today's media to be fertile ground for artistic expression. I am weaving together a new experimental radio work that is a musical narrative retelling.

I am writing to introduce the project, find support for this work and to spread the word. The work connects strongly with human rights and will benefit Amnesty International.

Although this note may appear a bit "spammish," I invite you to take a look and see what you think. The work supports human rights, new contemporary art and the continuation of Orwell's message.

You can find out more by clicking here:

Or take a look by searching in Google:

"Margaret Noble George Orwell"

Thanks for reading!!! I hope to hear from you!!!

Sincerely,

Margaret

hi margaret, that sounds like a fascinating project ! thanks so much for sharing it with us. i'll take a look at your website a bit later but i recommend that you post a full link rather than a shortened one ; there are no character limits on the forum and people tend to dislike short links (you never know where they lead).

Very cool! I love this book; Orwell was spot-on with some of the elements and ideas he brought forth.

Orwell 1984 Remix Update

I am in deep producing and promoting my project which is a sound art remix of George Orwell's novel 1984. I am mashing up samples from a 1950's radio recording of 1984 with field recordings, contemporary media clips, analog synth, drum machines and other madness.

The first two tracks are posted here:

http://www.artonair .org/archives/ j/content/ view/3138/

There is an interview about the work posted here:

So please take a listen and see what I am up to :-)

George Orwell 1984 Remix Project Complete

Hello,

Many moons ago I posted about a project I was crowd funding regarding George Orwell and contemporary media. It is a sound design, experimental project with graphics and video. The project is now complete and I wanted to follow up with the link:

http://orwellremix.com/

Details and descriptions below:

The year 1984 has passed, but George Orwell’s vision of a society controlled through surveillance, censorship, infringement of individual liberties, and violence in the name of security still resonates today. Are we in need of protection from the “other”? Or, is the “other” an ambiguous symbol used to control us? Through field recordings, media clips, text readings and electronic music composition, Margaret Noble pushes and plays with these questions.

Margaret Noble is available for performance and educational lecture bookings. Presentation content includes discussion on new media art, Orwell's 1984 and media literacy. Work is presented through live sound and video mixing.

For the sake of accuracy, I would note that the book is actually called "Nineteen Eighty-four", not "1984".
