Wearable computing -- where are we?
Some day, maybe we will have computing devices so small and unobtrusive that we will wear them on our bodies with no more discomfort or inconvenience than a pair of glasses. Andy's Wearable Computing Resource seeks to stimulate and inform on this topic. Andy shows quite a range of devices like wrist PDAs, a clip on voice recognition device, and, most interesting to me, different head-mounted displays. The site is attractive, well organized and easy to navigate. Another site, Wearables Central, is older, but is interesting in a historical sense. This site will lead you to a "wearables showcase". There is some info on an MIT site, but it looks like they are not updating it. They also have a History of Wearables page. MobileRead has had some posts relevant to this topic in the past here and here. What do you think? Would you buy a wearable? How much would you be willing to pay? What would you use it for? |
