But if you do not make your eBooks compatible with ADE/RMDSK, then you will have poor sales and a lot of returns. Most Readers use RMDSK. Most computers have ADE (you need it to download DRMed ePub). Sure you can use the full IPDF standard, but when something doesn't work with ADE, it won't work for most people.

When I say most, I'm talking about most of the people who download/buy ePub.

Actually you only need ADE to download content that uses Adobes DRM to protect it.

ADE is not the standard, but if you want to sell ebooks you need to know what is working on ebook readers. Usually Adobe Mobile. So, you can use pseudo selectors in css, build wonderful XML island, create sophisticated non-linear reading ebook using linear=no... but it is a waste of time because only you and some other nerds could see your work.

ADE is the standard. If you have to create your eBooks so it works with ADE, then yes it is the standard regardless of what IPDF says is the standard.

While there is no real standard, ADE is, to a degree, one of the two major practical standards. It is not the 500 pound gorilla in the room, though. The bigger "standard" is KindleGen.

Well, you are telling the things I told.
Anyway: we made ebook that simple do not work in ADE. We told this to the readers: you can't use this with ADE. We made ebooks that changes in time, updating the information inside the ebook, and we made ebooks with non-linear reading. We made this in ePub2, but are working only with some ebook readers programs, not ADE.
You can do this, but you have to advice the readers about.

A conversion to another format program can never be a standard, not even a practical standard for the initial format. That will be the wrong way around.

Where do you sell these eBooks? does the listing say it's not compatible with ADE? Do you care about sales? If you cared, you'd make your eBooks ADE compatible.

AFAIK ePub is not the #1 format for selling number. Kindle is the one.

I sell these ebooks where I want to sell it, our store usually. Oblivious I have also a "low generation" ADE version. The point is that we cannot wait ADE or Ibooks for make *real* digital ebooks.

Worldwide, ADE is the #1 program and ePub is the #1 format. Get your head out of the USA.

Actually I sell ebooks in Italy, so I'm talking about real numbers in Europe. Can you provide some link about the Worldwide numbers of sold ePub vs. mobi?
