Export all files from Calibre 7.24(new version) to external folder

Hi;
I am trying to export my total Calibre file and it is not working. I have done this many times in the past but can not seem to get it to work in this new version. Anyone have a set of directions or video of the method?
I have tried multiple methods.
Thank you.

What does "…can not seem to get it to work…" mean?

Is there an error message, are the wrong files saved, are the files saved the wrong place.

The normal way to export is via User Manual: Save to disk

That allows use with anything. Very flexible.

That's only for transferring to a different computer, with at least the same or later version of calibre. It's the best way between computers with Calibre installed, but no use outside of Calibre.

So it depends what the OP is planning to do with the "exported" ebooks as to the best method. Save to Disk might not work for all network locations. Export as in Export/Import seems to work fine over Windows/SMB shares. More recent Export limits file size per archive so that FAT32 works. Originally the FTS database wasn't split and it could be larger than 2G or 4G byte. So Importing Calibre install needs to be same or later version. The Export/Import also copies all the columns, settings, metadata and plugins. Save to Disk just does the selected Ebooks/Formats and a jpg of the cover.

It's an option to save the OPF and cover along with the book(s). I cannot recall if they are on by default.

They are off Jon, the only checkbox that's on by default in that dialogue is Show files in the file browser after saving to disk

And IMO that's as they should be. The factory defaults for most preferences checkboxes should be off, especially if they are added later, and even more especially if they take something away that was there before.

Regarding "Import/Export" v "Export/Import". For many people, especially 'newbies' the difference will be moot. The former has always been a group in Preferences main dialogue, and more recently in the Preferences drop down menu. The latter, in the Choose Library drop down menu, was added several years later; IMO it should have been labelled "Transfer Out/Transfer In" to avoid confusion, and to better reflect its intended usage.

I turned off the option to update the metadata on save-to-disk because it was on by default. Maybe that's been changed since then (whenever that was).

Hmmm, I've always assumed running the Welcome wizard post installation would reset all the Preferences back to the default values.

But it doesn't, which shows how often I've used it… a couple of times in Portable is about all.

The welcome wizard just sets up some common preferences based on answering a few simple questions. It does not touch the vast majority of preferences.

I think what I've done in the past is to delete Calibre Settings, and then run calibre-portable.exe. I tried to shortcut that the other day by running the Wizard from Preferences.
