Using a new version
If I upgrade my version of Calibre, will I lose access to my books? I thought I saw that stated at one time. My Calibre is 6.29 version. I am using a Windows 10 home edition. Thanks!

No. New versions of calibre can read and if necessary upgrade libraries created by old versions of calibre.
I've been upgrading my installation of calibre since before 1.0. It's always been fine. |

You could go from v1.0 to the current version with no problem with the database.

Just remember, you can't go back a release LEVEL (6 is a Level). Cabre automagically updates the data base when it finds an older version. It can not down grade a Level.

If you delete the database, can you recreate the database using an older version? What will an older version do with data in the OPF it may not understand? Will it ignore it or have a problem?

Surely if you delete it it is gone. Forever. Why would you ?

If the latest 7.x is working, never ever go back. You should not do that.

If and when you move forward again the changed entries will be wrong because they weren't maintained by the older version. calibre or plugins might not survive the experience. Basically YMMV. |

Oh, the 7.x is working great, it's faster than 6.15.1. But the Find Duplicates plugin (1.9.7) doesn't and that's the last version doing things the way I like it.

Alsom sticking with an old version because of one plugin is a rather bad idea. Also, because version 7 changed your database, you have to go back to the latest 7.x or eventually, you may have a problem. |
