Perhaps it has to do with steam-powered biplanes smuggling contraband. Or a Rube Goldberg machine, such as a domino-powered dynamo, one that that to be perpetually re-set in order to keep working.

Airships, but yes, smuggling. Generally set on the Sussex coast in the 19th century. Pirates and such. More Adventure stories than anything.

Well if smugglepunk is merely stories about smugglers in the 19th century, I can recommend a good example, Jim Davis, by John Masefield, written in 1911. I thoroughly enjoyed it. I can't upload it because he passed away in 1967. I think I downloaded it from Project Gutenberg but their server is being cranky at the moment; here's the link to his books on PG from the Wikipedia page: https://www.gutenberg.org/ebooks/author/582 There are also books by him on Faded Page; a lot of his stuff is poetry.

I've never hopped on the Salvatore band wagon. What I have read from him (the first third of Canticle) was just awful. But hey, who am I to judge?

The synopsis is written as if this is the middle of a story. But like Star Wars, this book was the first released, even if afterward it was labelled episode IV.

It was also originally written as a stand-alone, until the popularity of the book justified sequels and prequels.
