I sympathize if for whatever reason the link doesn't work for you. I'm planning to continue to use it when I share a link, but certainly won't be offended if other people choose not to. Either way, people may have to modify the links to meet their needs.
This is all true. I have made a donation choice at Amazon.com, but a smile link here from MR will still direct me to simply amazon.com and not to the book in question. Not a big problem but still somewhat annoying.

I'm sorry that the links won't work for you, I have no control over that. I hope that I have enough information that you can look it up yourself on your account if the links don't work for you. Please post IF YOU CAN'T find it as occasionally there are multiple versions.

As you can see, this link is for a good cause.
But it goes to a front page of no use to non-US people and you have to look for the book manually or give up.

It's not really necessary to search for the book manually - just copy the smile link to your browser, change "smile" to "www", and it should take you right to the book.

Yeah, it's a teeny bit more painful than just clicking, but not nearly as bad as having to search.

It's similar to what I do, going the other way, changing non-smile links to smile links, since I appreciate getting Amazon to donate to a charity I picked. (Not nearly as eclectic as some of other folks' charities, just UCLA, but still nice to have a bit of a donation going to them...and I do buy more books than I should )

The thing is, the majority of users on the forum seem to be in the US. (Or at least more deals are posted for Amazon US than the other regional Amazons.) It makes more sense for non-US users to edit the link because there's less of them.

You don't have to search for the book, just copy the link, paste it into the URL box, lop off the https://smile. at the beginning and hit enter. You don't even have to add in the www, Amazon automatically redirects it properly. You can do this on both desktop and mobile. Often you can even do this to find the book on your own regional Amazon by replacing the .com with .co.uk, or .ca or .jp and so on. The deals aren't usually good across regions, though, so that may be of limited use.

I would like to suggest you send Amazon some feedback that they should have the smile links redirect to the proper book page for non-US users, though. They need to know it's an issue for them. At the same time, it would be nice if they'd allow non-US visitors who buy from the US site to also pick a charity to donate to, even if's restricted to US-based ones. Maybe also tell them that if you'd be interested in it.

Oh, and just to complicate matters further, we do have an Amazon smile site in the UK and I wholeheartedly encourage UK Amazon purchasers to use it.

I’m not sure how much longer the sale will last, but Seanan McGuire’s In an Absent Dream (Wayward Children #4), which just failed to receive a Hugo, is currently on sale for US$2.99.

This is a great series. They're really novellas, so I find it hard to pay the normal $10.99 price, but well worth the discounted price. They're mostly standalone but most people recommend reading the first book before the others.

Bimbos of the Death Sun is the first in Sharyn McCrumb's too short two-book Jay Omega mystery series, but the books are set in the sci-fi fandom world, so I'm putting a cross-post here. I quite liked the two books in the series. Bimbos is on sale right now for $1.99 at Kindle and Kobo US.

Mission Earth Volume 1: The Invaders Plan by L. Ron Hubbard is $0.99 at Amazon US. So, I don't know, if you are mad at yourself or something...

Quote:
Earth does not exist. . . . Or so they want you to believe. Who are they? What do they want? And who do they think they are? They are the Voltarians of Voltar—an empire 110 planets strong.

They are already among us. And the invasion is about to begin . . . in a hundred years or so. Or is it? The truth is far more sinister. Undercover, underground and out of sight, the invaders plan what may in fact be a massive diversion. In the darkest recesses of Voltar’s Coordinated Information Apparatus (otherwise known as the CIA), a tyrant of terror sets out to exploit the invasion in order to seize power. All that stands in his way is a planet that doesn’t exist.

Discover a world where corporations rule and political corruption is rife. Where governments are driven by oil and controlled by drugs. Where global warming is getting hotter by the minute . . . and a scorching love affair could determine the fate of millions. Where a cosmic conspiracy is about to hit home and the intergalactic intrigue knows no bounds.

They call it Blito-P3. We call it Earth.

You can’t afford to look the other way. It’s the end of the world as you know it . . . and the beginning of one of the most spectacular, thought-provoking, and wildly inventive works of science fiction and espionage of our time
To me, Mission Earth shows what happens when a hack can publish without supervision of an editor or any other input.

And with a religious cult ready to buy up as many copies as required to get it onto the bestseller lists, as with all of his books.

I did actually read all of these, many years ago, and while yes, they are terrible, there was some amusement to be had.

Much like watching some of wannabes in a talent show's audition rounds who are willing to prove they have no talent.

Reminds me of why the ELRON awards were given that name.
