HTML-to-Epub Online Converter available
Book Glutton has recently added epub conversion to their website. This is all weel and good, but is there any program that reads epub yet?
It currently accepts only single HTML files. You can find it here. |

I don't think Adobe DE does it yet. I can say two things about Adobe. I've never used a mediocre Adobe program. (I've never used a good one, either.) |

Has anyone gotten it to work? I've tried twice, but I haven't gotten an epub file back from them.

i tried yesterday with a complete ebook in html format and it was working good, at least within the known restrictions.
The beste EPub Reader at the moment is definately Adobe Digital Editions, no other program does even get close... |

ePub Options
I also tried this program, with basically good results. I offer all of our books in HTML format, and it's a simple matter to select a file, then download the resulting ePub version.
I read it in the FBR reader with no difficulties at all. This program doesn't include graphics, so it stripped my beautiful cover, and it ignored my <center> and <p align="center"> (deprecated) tags. Otherwise, it seems like a nice little gadget. I hadn't really messed with the FBR reader before. I installed the windows version with no problems and was able to read ePub and Palm DOC eBooks with no problem. I haven't experimented with other formats. If you have a OEB version (starting point for MOBI, or run convertLIT on LIT) then the python script oeb2epub should do a better job. See ePub Creation Utility, post #12 links to the latest oeb2epub.

Back to Nate's question ("is there any program that reads epub yet?"):
1. Is the correct answer at the moment only Adobe Digital Editions and FBReader? 2. I assume we are still hoping (and expecting soon) for Sony to support it (and Adobe DE) for the Reader, correct? |

2. I do not think the planned PDF upgrade on the Sony is likely to include DE. That was a jump made by some posters, not a claim from Sony. The only thing that was shown at CES was a PDF reader that could reflow text only documents and for some reason this hasn't yet seen the light of day. Dale |

According to Nate, he was able transfer a native ePub File to the PRS-505 using the newest version of Adobe Digital. Didn't have a chance to try it myself yet ...

Of course to double check, I've upgraded the Adobe DE and it does not seem to detect the SONY reader. =X= |
