at first it seemed to no work but after power on and off a couple or times the shutdown images works!!! later i put to sleep couple of times and then the sleeping image works!!! all working in Kobo Aura Hd latest firmware 4.6.9995

With previous 4.x updates, "experiment2" from post #223 survived successive updates. With firmware 4.7.10413 on a Kobo Aura (kobo5) I simply had to reinstall the patch and let it calculate a new scanline. Still works perfectly on this end.

YMMV with other models, though.

I recently upgraded my Aura H2O firmware and the font of the "Sleeping" and "Power Off" messages changed so the screensavers weren't working. I tried to turn on the debug mode but no scanlines appeared.

Initially, I thought it wasn't working, but after sleeping and powering off the unit several times (similar to Nicoalejandro's experience), I finally saw the scanlines appear and after the scanlines intersected the "Sleeping" text, one last power-cycle made the screensavers work!

Hi, I have recently updated my Kobo Glo HD to FW 4.8.11073 (Language English) from 3.19.5761. Previously I had been using the old version of the screensaver without issues for a couple of years.

I've tried installing the "experiment2" from post #223 and lettign it auto configure a couple of times. Then I've run through steps 4 & 5 numerous times and it still fails to work.

I've not yet seen the scanline on the screen, but it is writing the scan line info to the cfg file, and each time I uninstall and reinstall it writes the same scanline information.

Ah - too bad as this has been great to have.

The old version had the ability to adjust the timing (via 'delay') and also the scanline offset in the .cfg file - is this possible in the latest experiment2 version?

I'd be more than happy to do any amount of debugging etc

hmmm, I would really love to get this back on my Glo HD. Frostschutz, can you give me any pointers as to debugging the process? I'm not programming illiterate but just don't know where to start, even after I've read through the thread a couple of times.

Seems like getting telnet running and check logread -f option for the logread approach is long dead (since fw3.18.0 or so)?

I'm at a loss to understand how the (inotify affiliate.conf) approach works? I've also read through the various links to other methods (the LD_PRELOAD for instance) but don't have the knowledge to make any progress.

As previously noted, very happy to try any amount of debugging and manually fiddling around on my Glo HD (FW 4.8.11073) but would love to have a pointer or two....

I'm planning to update this mod, perhaps this weekend. Well, remind me if I don't.

The tool I use to display images (pngshow) is a dirty hack I wrote myself. It doesn't hold a candle to NiLuJe's so much better fbink tool. It has better compatibility with Kobo devices and it's also lightyears faster to bring the image to the screen. And with fbink it will also be possible to display debug messages on screen - that alone should help to understand what the heck is going on.

What that doesn't fix is the scanline approach itself. I still haven't found a more reliable way to detect that the reader is going into standby (or going to shut off power).

I have a Aura One and a Forma I can use to test. Though I am giving away the Aura One around the end of November, I hope it does not take that long, and that there are others who have an Aura One who would be open to helping test this out.
