ah...
Maybe I had a memory error about it being F4 -
while looking at the Kubrick screen, try other function keys, see what happens.

Link please, it will help me in finding out why Kubrick boots but then hangs for you.

= = = =

Still can't see the Kindle, not even for a second or two (will be shown in the kernel log, enter: dmesg).

Sounds like your only choice is to use the serial port.

The drive is detected but not the media (I.E: empty drive).

Time to get out your serial port hardware.

I have sussed the Kubrick disc.
Must press F5 when welcome screen is displayed, then entre at boot option.
Kernel is displayed but much too fast for me to view. Anyway to stop it? so I can read.
Thanks for all your patience and help I do really appreciate it.

Do you have a computer with a keyboard attached to it?

You will have to run a terminal emulator, such as PuTTY, on the computer.

I don't think PuTTY has touch screen (Win8.1) support,
Perhaps something else does.

My Windows experience since Win95 amounts to the past five days.
I am not the one to be answering Windows questions.

= = = =

PS: I normally don't even admit in public that I have a Windows license.

Err, according to the S/N, that's a PW1. I don't think Kubrick can do anything for those, or am I misremembering stuff?

You never mention which paperwhite you have, there are three of them,
The original, indexed as K5
The others are indexed as PW-2 and PW-3

Compare the first four characters of your devices serial number with this table:
https://wiki.mobileread.com/wiki/Kindle_Serial_Numbers
(You can find that both on a (working) Kindle and on your Amazon Kindle Account.)

Now see the sticky at the top of the index page "Where do I start?"
Select that.
Click your model nickname.
If your model nickname isn't shown, pick K5/PW-1
find the 'teardown' links in the index (the PW-1, 2, 3 are similar enough for you to use).

Then pick "hardware" in the master index.
Select any of the serial port entries.

Order your adapter if you don't have one already.

Then connect the adapter to the serial port. Note: If you don't have hot soldering skills, see my "Paint and Play" thread.

Then find any of the threads about serial port recovery here.
