Hardware acceleration is turned on by default in this repository for all Kobo devices.

4.2.8283 and beyond will be switching the framebuffer to 32 bit depth. Modifications/code that assume 16 bit will be broken. Kernels will be patched for each generation of device that the update goes out to.

My nightmode repository above has also been updated to support 16bpp and 32bpp software inversion for older firmware, if needed.

I don't recommend manually applying 4.2.8283 if it's not available via the Kobo servers. It might work, but it most likely won't.
It is available from the Kobo servers and the beta affiliate.

32bit, so... RGBA instead of RGB565?

Whoa. Okay. Breaks all the mods.

But it's a good change. The lack of color was disturbing.

NEW FIRMWARE VERSION 4.2.8432

Firmware 4.2.8432 has just been released;

http://download.kobobooks.com/firmwa...e-4.2.8432.zip

"The Wishlist feature is now available on your Kobo. Look for it in the Browse section"

Again, the standard warning. Only install this on a Kobo Aura One and Kobo Aura Edition 2. It may or may not work on a Kobo Glo HD.

Starting to wonder if the H2O's ever going to officially get another update.

Don't do that. There's a good chance something will go wrong and either you'll end up with an error or end up with a bricked device.

There is a change in the graphics from 16bppp to 32bpp and that's part of the OS. So in order to have everything work properly, you need to have the OS installed and there is not a version of the OS for your Kobo.

So go back the the firmware you were using until a new version comes out specifically for the n905.

Oh OK...

Explains why images was alot clearer!!! As to things going wrong... been several days of use(2-3hours a day) and no issues. I do understand your warning etc but everything is working fine without any issues at all... actually seems to be working better than has done on last two to three official updates.

The thing is, nobody knows if there will be a problem with what you are doing. And chances are, if something does go wrong, it will really go wrong and you'll not be able to read.

Please advise!

No. It will not. The new firmware relies on a change to the graphics in the OS and the OS will not run on an Aura.

The wiki page mentioned has now been updated to include all the firmware versions I could find mentioned here.

There are several cases where firmware URLs no longer work. Search for "No longer available" in the wiki page. Can we find out the correct URLs at all? Or maybe we just don't care: most of these are 4+ years old.

Kobo's release engineering has certainly been... let's say "interesting"... over the years. Multiple releases with the same version? Multiple releases with the same version but different SVN/git revisions? Pulled releases? We've got 'em all...
