Publishers just don't seem to believe that getting rid of DRM will increase sales. It appears that they think that a shared file is a lost sale rather than a form of advertising.

It will be interesting to see if the iBook store follows the old "authorized computer" model concerning allowing the files to be shared on a certain number of devices.

Not all publishers feel this way. Check out this article about O'Reilly's ebook sales increasing 104% - *after* DRM was dropped.

O'Reilly drops ebook DRM, sees 104% increase in sales

See the Jobs' comment here, claiming that the iBooks prices will be the same as Amazon's.

Which, now it seems, Jobs knew MacMillan was renegotiating for $14.99 books, not that iBooks would match Amazon's $9.99 books. Looks like that is coming true.

Hmm, there are so many reviews on this product from people who actually know about the device, and/or care about the device. Your "friend" seems to have very little technical knowledge, so why even post this silly thread???

This thread was originally posted within a couple of hours of the announcement before we had as much info as we do now. It was just a little spot of info about someone who had actually seen and touched and iPad, nothing more.

If this thread was too silly for you, you did not need to continue to read it or even post about it. It's been dead for a while and you brought it back to life. I suggest you use the "ignore thread" feature in future.
