Smile PDF oddies - need suggestions

I down/sideloaded a PDF which looks fine on my Kindle Keyboard but displays as a rather poor scanned image on my Kindle Fire 2

That's John Clark's _Ignition_ and two others from
http://library.sciencemadness.org/library

Any suggestions ?

Like (a) why and (b) an App that can do better.

As to (b) I edit to report that two PDF Apps (both free) render the pages fine, unlike the Amazon Fire's default.

Adobe Reader
Foxit Mobile PDF

click the various options and the scan can also be seen.

All the PDF apps use different backends/SDKs, and they all work remotely different due to that. That would be your "why".
