I checked Create collections, restarted Calibre. The Metadata management was already set to automatic, I suppressed the ":", and then updated the metadata on the device. I turned the device off then on, with no success.
I then reconnected to my PC, updated the device metadata again, but the collections remained empty.

I must be doing something wrong somewhere since nobody seems to have that problem, and I have no idea what.

What happens if you enter just tags, not {tags}? I've never used the latter.

You're right. That box should contain a list of lookup names, not a template.
