Planets-- common as dirt.

The sky is full of 'em. And not just the Hot Jupiters cruder instruments could detect.

And this is after just six 6 weeks of observations. The total number of Earthlike planets Kepler could find could end up in the thousands.

It's been accepted for years that planetary systems are an inevitable part of the formation of star formation, but it's nice that we're now getting observation proof of the existance of other Earthlike planets.

Now we just have to work out a way of getting there to have a look. All those light years are a nuisance or (if all the aliens are bad guys) a blessing. Still I'm continually amazed at how much we've managed to find out about stuff so far away.
