For Happy Days, the shark jump episode marks the point at which the show deviated completely from its original premise ("American Graffiti" style nostalgia sitcom about Richie Cunningham and his friends) and became "The Fonzie Show," which was not nearly as good.

Though in fairness, there are many people who felt it jumped the shark much earlier... which is kind of ironic . That show definitely changed in major ways three or four times.

I don't remember when they stopped using "Rock Around the Clock" as the theme song. Was that the third season? Anyway, that was a step down, but I wouldn't say the show had jumped the shark yet.

I looked it up. They switched the theme for the third season, but in reruns, they switched it starting with the second season.

As for when the show jumps the shark, well.. that is always subjective.... well except when Fonzie really jumps the shark of course .

You missed a critical part of the "jumping the shark" Happy Days episode: Fonzi jumped the shark on water skis while wearing his LEATHER JACKET.

And as far as well rounded superhero comic book characters are concerned, Stan Lee's creation of the early stable of Marvel superheroes was all about character development. That was what made them so different than DC or anybody else.

I wouldn't have thought that sea water would do a leather jacket much good. Salt stains are hard to get out of leather.

For a character who was suppose to be the coolest guy ever, Fonzie had a surprising collection of hangups. The whole leather jacket thing was odd, because there were times he did take it off... just not in situations where it might make particular sense like... Jumping sharks on water skis.

I suspect it was a way to make it very clear to the viewers in distance shots that it was Fonzie and not someone else who was on the water skis (Perhaps to distract attention away from the stunt-man's face? .

Kind of like those great 60s shows where in fight scenes the distance shots would feature stunt-men who looked nothing like the actor they were portraying.

I don't know about well rounded super heroes, but Garth Innis' The Boys puts a completely different spin on super heroes. Am thoroughly enjoying it.
