Mobi Hyphenation

Maybe I just don't know how to look, but I'm not seeing a feature that Mobi claims to have in action: hyphenation.

Hy-phen-a-tion is the thing that helps book typesetters make the text be flush to the sides of the page and not have ........ long ....... gaps ........ between words.

And, assuming it works, one of the things that would help it is an improved hyphenation dictionary. So we don't badly h-yphe-na-ted words.

What am I mssing?

MobiPocket is very conservative about hyphenation, i.e. it rarely hyphenates. To see it in action, look at a small screen and a very large font. Last I heard, it isn't available at all in the Java Reader.

FBReader uses Liang's algorithm (as used in TeX, with TeX hyphenation patterns), and it hyphenates more frequently and on different words than MobiPocket.

I believe the Cybook uses the Java engine and recently released hyphenation.

As Dale says, the new v708 firmware release for the Gen3 added Mobi hypenation support. I uploaded a photograph showing it "in action". At "normal" reading font sizes, however, it almost never hyphenates. As has been said already, you need to have a large font size (or use a lot of extremely long words!) to see it happen.
