Free: Wool (Part 1) by Hugh Howey
Wool (Part 1) by Hugh Howey is currently free at Amazon for Europeans (probably for Americans, too).

Better to get the Omnibus of the first 5. You will anyway after you read #1. |

I have the first three parts already - they were free at one point some time ago and I grabbed them. In my opinion it is a good opportunity to try the first one for free and then see if it is worth buying all of the parts from 1 to 5. I haven't read them yet, but I must admit that I am somewhat skeptical because of all the hype surrounding the series. Books like that usually overpromise and underdeliver.

Face it, it's as good as it's said to be. So buck up, get the Omnibus and read away. |

But, you know... Everybody's tastes are different and the opportunity to get a free book to try out with a new author is not something to be ignored. If you like what you read, you'll still save money purchasing the omnibus with the remaining stories.

-There's also a Part 6 (First Shift - Legacy (Part 6 of the Silo Series) (Wool)), which is technically a prequel but should be read after Parts 1-5.
-The lowest price (since Feb. 2012-on ereaderiq) for the Wool Omnibus #1-5 was $4.99, it's currently $5.99. Part 6 is in ereaderiq, so if it goes on sale it should come up. -I haven't read them yet either, but I completely agree with jgaiser's comments about everyone having different tastes and it being a great opportunity to get a free title in order to sample a new author before buying. |

The Wool Omnibus sample from Amazon contains Wool 1 in its entirety, plus a bit of Wool 2, so that's another way to sample the story for free. I've read 1-5 and thought they were quite good.

I just finished part one. This was probably the best written short I've ever read.
I figure out what was going to happen, but it didn't deter me from utterly enjoying the experience. |

Different strokes for different folks. I've read the omnibus and throughly enjoyed the ride. Still need to pick up the prequels.

I read the whole Omnibus and enjoyed it. It wasn't the best book I've ever read, but it did keep my interest all the way through, although it was rather predicable. It was worth the time to read, but I doubt I'd read any more of it.
