Question about ads on Kindle devices
I have had Kindles over the years. I typically do not mind the ads but it seems to me that I might actually buy something based upon them if they were books in the genre I read most, science fiction. Ads I see are almost exclusively for romance books. Does that happen just to me or do you get ads that are relevant?

Yep I get adds that are not relevant to my reading so I paid the $20 to get regular screen savers

The main reason to remove ads is so that (if you don’t have a passcode set), Kindle will unlock without having to swipe (using power button or magnetic cover). Also in List view mode there is one more book listed per page. Folklore has it that you only need to call Amazon to get the ads removed at no charge, but I’ve not ever done that.
When Amazon launched Special Offers, there were actually some modestly good deals mixed in. But those went away after a year or so. |

I prefer the book cover to ads or whatever it is Amazon uses in place of ads.

Now there are some typewriter macro photographs shown as off-screen. Quite nice. |

Don't pay the $20. If you message customer support to ask them to remove ads, they'll do it for free (the first time). I'm on my second Kindle, and the support person simply told me she'd remove the special offers and asked me to check if they went away.
She didn't say she waived the $20 fee (like they usually do), but she also didn't say it cost something, and my card wasn't charged. |
