Amazon Prime?

Is anyone using Amazon prime and taking advantage of the free book per month? Can you sideload the books to your Kindle via USB or only download directly from the Kindle?

If the PC you use to do the download has Kindle reader installed, then yes.

Since you need a hardware Kindle device for borrowing the free books from Amazon Prime, why would you need K4PC? You couldn't borrow via K4PC. I am not talking about free books in general, but those only available to borrow for Prime members.

I believe it only applies to Hardware devices, not K4PC

I have not borrowed anything though.

Followup: I did just "borrow" Guns, Germs, and Steel via my Kindle Fire and the book shows up under manage your Kindle and I can download to my PC.

You can read the Amazon Prime book only on a Kindle device—not using Kindle Cloud Reader, Kindle Android App, or Kindle for PC software.

You do have to request the Amazon Prime book directly from your Kindle device. You cannot do that using a computer, although you can browse the Prime-eligible titles here.

Once you have requested the book, if you choose "download and transfer via USB" on your Manage Your Kindle page (in your Amazon account), on the next screen you will be asked "Which Kindle will you transfer this to?" and you will be given only the choice of a Kindle device.

Thanks for that thorough reply, that is exactly what I wanted to know.

Amazon customer service just answered my last question, registered Amazon Prime members (must have a valid US address and US credit card) can borrow books even when traveling abroad. One for each calendar month only, of course.

Go to www.usunlocked.com and get their credit card --- your wish will come true! At least for our purposes. Though, to take advantage of the video streaming service you will also need a fast VPN service.
