Taking the form of a personal diary, this story chronicles the journey of 16-year old Kate into womanhood and her growth into spiritual maturity during the 1800's. As Kate experiences the ups-and-downs of life she shares her inmost thoughts, and we cannnot help but laugh with her, as we recognise ourselves, and cry with her, when tragedy strikes.
First published as a book in 1869, it sold nearly 70,000 copies in America alone and was also popular in Europe.

Elizabeth Prentiss

was born on October 26, 1818 in Portland, Maine, (United States), the daughter of Pastor Edward Payson and his wife Louisa. Elizabeth was deeply impacted by the death of her father, who had suffered from tuberculosis for over a year, on October 22, 1827. The family moved to New York City in 1831, and in May of that year, Elizabeth made a public profession of faith in Christ.
Elizabeth was well educated and possessed a gift for writing.
