Kindle good deal to Sony?
Is it still necessary to strip DRM in order to get Kindle books onto a Sony PRS 950?
Thanks (and please don't move this inquiry...or at least until it is answered)! |

You also have to either convert to epub if it's mobi format or unpack it using the Kindle unpack plugin in Calibre if it's an azw3 format.

... Wrong question. It is still often necessary -- mostly with BPH ebooks -- to strip DRM if you want to get those ebooks onto any device that doesn't support a specific DRM scheme. That is because many books -- particularly BPH ebooks -- are still sold with DRM. Inherent in "DRM" is that it needs to be stripped in order to make the book usable except under very specific circumstances.
Moral of the story -- strip your DRM. Last edited by eschwartz; 12-23-2015 at 04:45 PM. |

I can't get excited about stripping DRM. I'm inclined to just live with what's available elsewhere.

Moved to Sony forum where questions like this belong. It ain't rocket science! But the re-direct should be sufficient for purposes of finding.

Is there a particular reason why you don't want your thread moved out of an obscure forum where you are less likely to get answers? OK, many people who know the answers do frequent both this forum and the forums where this post probably belongs (Kindle forum maybe?) but the fact that you got answers in the Deals forum is an accident! There are good reasons why you are supposed to post in the forums where you questions are relevant. It is not because we don't like your thread -- it's because we want to make it easier for people to find you in order to help you! EDIT: issybird beat me to it... Moved: Kindle good deal to Sony?
I don't read whatever forum you moved my inquiry to; thus, I'll miss any additional beneficial responses. Rather unfortunate!

There is no special forum for "things that petercreasey is interested in". Keeping your threads in the Deals forum means everyone who tracks the Deals forum has to read your responses -- which is also unfortunate! If you want to discuss MobileRead policy, we have a Feedback forum. Since you are (or should be) subscribed to this thread, you will undoubtedly still see responses even once this thread is moved there. But just in case, you can check your subscribed threads on your User Control Panel. |
