I figure it is on the OP to make sure his images are there if he is not getting good answers.

@Cinisajoy - the OP may have gotten a good answer (amongst some not so good and a raft of OT posts), and gone along their merry way.
But someone who accesses the thread from a search may not be able to intuit the correct answer if the original post has had its images removed. On occasions, I've seen o/s images removed from threads that are months old. IMO if a mod or editor stumbles on an oversize image in an inactive thread they should rectify it by doing whatever to make it a MR thumbnail image. Ideally of course, posting of o/s images should be prevented at post time. BR |

@Cinisajoy what would you do if you found an inactive thread that had the answer, to a problem you are having, but the answer was given as an o/s image and the image was removed and you can't get the answer? You'd probably be pretty annoyed.
Just think of all the threads on MR that are worthless because the o/s image(s) have been removed and without the images, the thread makes no sense. |

I am guessing by inactive you mean old. Now what does worry me is how some people seem to be complaining about little stuff that ain't really their concern. I am worried about their health. One in particular seems to be a bit more irritable over little stuff lately. I hope he is feeling ok. Spoiler:

Here is yet another poor job if image removal.
https://www.mobileread.com/forums/sh...7&postcount=16 The problem is that the people who posted the oversized imaged don't realize and have not gone back and fixed them. The people who posted such images should be getting notified that they did it so they can fix it. One of the people who did post oversized images continued posting in this thread without knowing. The way images are removed and then a message posted in the thread DOES NOT WORK! If staff is going to bother to do it this way (that doesn't work) then either fix it by removing the images and attaching them or send the posters a PM saying about the images. Don't just go along thining how it's being done works, because it DOESN'T WORK! |

So, today Dr. Drib deleted two photos someone else posted from a thread because they were greater than 600x600 pixels. As I wrote there:

I agree that it would be nice if larger images could be posted to the forums.
On the other hand it is virtually no extra effort to post larger images as attachments, so the whole thing is basically a non-issue. Attachments also have the advantage of staying on the MR server, while hotlinked images often vanish. So educating users to use attachments might be a good idea. Perhaps it would be a good thing if Dr. Drib's standard image deletion notice specifically included some hint to the attachment option. |

Attached images thumbnails can be placed in line, this one is 2560x1440
They are listed in the Advanced mode paper clip icon. Position the insertion cursor where you want an uploaded image and select image from paper clip icon drop down list BR Last edited by BetterRed; 11-05-2017 at 04:28 AM. Reason: add 2nd img |

Wow, that's great. Wasn't aware of that option. With that, there should really be no objection against using attachments for images.

I think a lot of folks post 'o/s' images because a) they don't know about thumbnails. and b) they use low function soc med hosts that don't offer thumbnails, c) they post using the forum simple reply form from their fiddlefones. BR Last edited by BetterRed; 11-05-2017 at 05:02 AM. |

That top image is a very beautiful photo! ---- I always tell authors/publishers to use the Manage Image option, as you suggest. |

I agree that deleting oversize images is unhelpful and serves no purpose when it's a trivial edit to change them to thumbnails, which is my preferred option. I would like to see a consistent approach to this myself.

I would prefer people not post images so large that it makes the thread unreadable and almost impossible to hit the report button. It took me 4 tries on the last one I reported.

Cin, we would all prefer that everyone not post oversize images, but it does happen. Generally, the poster is either unaware of the Guidelines or doesn't realize an image is huge. The issue is how best to deal with it. The post will be brought into compliance as soon as possible, but should it be by deletion or by resizing the image?
