I literally said straight out "If you are not aware", explicitly giving the benefit of the doubt. You're imagining things. It certainly takes... something... to be living in Florida in 2022 yet unaware of this particular issue, but I accept that some people don't have any political awareness at all.

People who are engaging in good faith conversation typically want to know when they've said something outrageously rude accidentally.

His posts were not the slightest bit offensive, not the slightest bit anti-gay, well spoken, and it was easy to understand his intent. If you're going to jump on someone, at least jump on someone who can be offensive at times. Like me. Or DiapDealer. Or yourself. You jumped on the least offensive person in this thread. Yes clearly when faced with any controversy the correct response is to bury one’s head in the sand and refuse to hear anything about it, as well as to deny any one the same information you seek to avoid.



Merely having the books does not force anyone to read them. And pretending that the people the books represent are going to go away if the books do is asinine at best, as well as rather revealing about the individual holding said belief.

And you could have just accepted his comments for what they were (comparing controversial subjects) and let it slide off your back. jhowell was on you side, after all — but apparently his wording didn't meet your "standards."

Personally I look at it this way. If I order a hamburger and the restaurant owner decides I need to eat "healthier" and brings me a turkey "burger" instead, I'm not going to pay him. The majority of the people in this small town said "we don't want these books, we pay for the library, if you want us keep paying for it get rid of the books."

The publicly funded library chose to ignore the majority of the town's voters and they lost their funding. That's called democracy. Should I be forced to pay for a turkey burger when I order a hamburger?

Which is, of course, is not the point. The point is that the majority didn't want the book in the library. They didn't forcibly remove the book, they just didn't fund the library's "millage." The library made a choice, the voters made a choice. Agree with it or not, that's what it comes down to.

That's true. In election coverage, newscasters don't call that a "strong majority". They call it "a landslide".

Okay, you have a point, although the first vote (I believe) was 67% to 33%, so one of the two votes was definitely a strong majority. (And 56% to 44% is not that weak of a majority either.)

Hopefully the library purges the books that majority wants and continues to serve those who voted to keep them funded. Clearly those who voted to defund feel they can survive without so no need to consider their desires now. Which goes for all library services, not just books.
