"Ghost Story" was incredible. But I also like his earlier books, "Julia" and "If You Could See Me Now."
Even better, it sounds like he was an incredible friend and mentor to many other authors. There have been so many heartfelt condolences and memories. One author remembered a moment at a convention. He went to the hotel lobby to meet his young son -- and found him in the lobby coloring with Peter Straub. |

Oh man, I loved the Peter Straub books I've read. He was right behind Stephen King for me.

I agree that he was a major writer and that the comparison with Henry James is quite apt.

I'm not a fan of the horror genre, so I never read any of Straub's books. However, I do remember him as a frequent interviewee on the old Prisoners of Gravity show from over thirty years ago. He came across as intelligent and a clear communicator, and I probably would have read his stuff after that if it had been in any other genre. Oh well, such is life.
