What if B&N and Kobo got married?
This may well have been discussed in the past for all I know. But reading the news about B&N getting a new CEO, their Nook business flailing and they are pulling back from everywhere and Rakuten's history of treating Kobo like a red-headed step child made me wonder:
What if B&N and Kobo joined forces? Either through a joint venture or an acquisition? Kobo would gain a chain of brick and mortar stores to display their hardware. B&N could cut their Nook line. Win, win? |

I can see B&N sending their ecustomers to Kobo, but I don't see Kobo acquiring anything physical.

Great. That could turn out as well as Microsoft's acquisition of Nokia's phone business!

"Blind leading the blind" would be a good way to look at it. Does anyone remember PennCentral? That's what Barnes & Kobo would become, only without the vast financial resources at the start. |
