Book to ebook format?

Are there any companies that will transform a book to ebook format? Or can I scan it easily with a scanner at home? (book format will be spiral bound).

What's the best way to do this?

I just saw one of the context adds on another forum page for paper-convert.com -- don't know a thing about them, though. I guess we'll see if the context ad server is clever enough to pick it up and post the ad on this page.

Scanning a book yourself is tedious, but not particularly difficult. You'll need a scanner and some sort of OCR software to get text out of it. Basically, you scan it page by page (with spiral bound you can probably unbind it and run the pages through a feeder), then run the OCR on the results, then you have to proof it.

Tedious, but doable if you care enough to go to that much trouble.

Thanks... Also, is there a way to scan or take picture of page and read it as a photo (such as on a ipod touch)?

Sure. You actually covered it: scan/photograph the page and load it onto whatever device works for you. You will likely need to process the image with something like photoshop to get it readable, but there's no reason you couldn't.
