New Sub-Forum for Amazon Echo
Could we please get a sub-forum for the Amazon Echo in the Amazon Kindle forum? It does have audiobook functionality, though quite limited at the moment.

Do you really think there's sufficient interest in it to merit a sub-forum? We appear not to have been flooded with threads about it, and its use related to audiobooks can be discussed in the audiobooks forum.

We generally only create new sub-forums when the volume of posts merits it.

Right now, there isn't that much interest because there aren't that many of us with the device. It's being released by invitation only and Amazon is slow with the invites. I hear you on the volume issue, but several of us thought it would be a good idea to keep the threads grouped together in a sub-forum from the start.

At this point in time, it really needs to break out of the news thread because we're now discussing actual use cases for it. It's a hybrid device with multiple uses (music, news, weather, information, etc), but only one that is relevant to MR; ie, audiobooks.

Currently, only Amazon is allowed to load apps and there are only three specific apps in it - Amazon Music, iHeartRadio, and TuneIn Radio. As time goes on, I expect more will be added; and at some point in the future, I expect users will be allowed to load apps directly. But that time isn't here yet.

So in the opinion of management, do you want Echo threads in the Audiobook Forum or the Kindle Fire Forum? and short of a sub-forum, could we at least get a prefix for it (Amazon Echo)?

This device really isn't a good fit for MR's areas of interest: mobile devices and reading. The moderating team have had a chat about this, and we recommend that you discuss its audiobook facets in the audiobook forum, and anything else in the Lounge.
