Do you update your Calibre as soon as a new version is released?
Do you upgrade your Calibre immediately when a new version is out, or do you wait a couple days to see if there are bug reports in the forum?

Totally depends on what happened last time I updated or whether I feel reckless

Personally whenever I open calibre and it indicates a new version I install it. There hasn't been any catastrophic problems with any upgrades yet. Minor hiccups I can live with and just in case I always have a backup ready.

I wait at least a couple of days in case a problem crops up. Even then, if the upgrade doesn't have anything that would directly benefit me, I might give it a skip.

I check if it's something I've been wanting for or if it fixes something I find annoying, I'll update immediately. If not, I might download it and install when I think about it. Or I might skip it.
I went from 0.6.20 (something) to 0.7.20 and then moved on to the beta as soon as I found out about the custom fields... |

I do, but with 0.21 found that I had to roll back pretty fast due to metadata update issues. I feel comfortable updating as I keep rsynced updates of my DB and sf.net has all the older versions available for rollback.

I install before it is officially available and report bugs, so the official version is as bug-free as possible.
Oh. don't forget to backup your library before stepping on thin ice ;-) |

I always update. So far, there have been no major problems, but then as my library is unlikely to change for a long time now as I have well over 300 books queued for reading on my ereader.

Depends on how much time I have, but generally, I update the day of the release. Mostly because I'm excited to see new features, even if I don't plan to use them. If there is a beta that sounds interesting, I'll try that on another computer.

I'm a great believer in *If it ain't broke - don't fix it*
So the answer is no unless I feel the need, why waste bandwidth! |

No, mostly because updates appear so fast I find easier to skip 2-3 dot versions and jump from 0.7.18 to 0.7.21 like I just did.
btw, great "Search&Replace" addition that solves the LN,FN to FN LN |

I update it whenever the "nag screen" shows up.
Then again, I do not have too many books either that I can't lose. Most of my 467 books are from a CD that came with a computer magazine. When downloading from Feedbooks, Smashwords or the like, the books normally goes straight into the Kindle library and not via Calibre. Only a few books or blog contents have been through my Calibre for converting to Kindle. (In fact, I might just throw out all the free books from the CD and start with a "clean" library from scratch. ) |
