Is anyone able to put me straight concerning ebook isbn #s please; are they recommended?

The current recommendation/requirement is that each ebook format has a separate ISBN.

Just to add a little: ebook ISBNs are commonly referred to as eISBNs.

This is true, and confusing. They are just ISBNs. There's no separate registry or number range for ISBN numbers for ebooks.
