Harte, Bret: The Queen of the Pirate Isle (illus), v1. 09 June 2015

The Queen of the Pirate Isle by Bret Harte (1836–1902)
Illustrated by Kate Greenaway (1846–1901)

First published 1886.
The text and illustrations of this book are in the public domain worldwide, because the creators died more than 100 years ago.

This gently humorous short story describes a day in the life of an imaginative little girl, who lives near the mining camps of California during the gold rush of the mid-1800’s. 28 color illustrations by the incomparable Kate Greenaway add to the charm of the tale.

Text and images were obtained from archive.org. I formatted punctuation, diacritics, and italics; manually cleaned and enhanced images. Cover design is my own adaptation of the cover for the British edition.

I couldn't decide whether to classify this for Children, Humor, or Short Fiction... You read it, and let me know what you think.
