Acronyms I Have Known
Acronyms I Have Known
In and around the US Government (and all governments for that matter) acronyms are a way of life. NatCh is famous for his TLAs so I thought I would open the arena to everyone. The principle is a common acronym with another meaning. One of the strangest was a poster I saw on a Major’s wall at the Pentagon that has in large letters “UNA” and in the lower left corner in tiny type it said, “Use No Acronyms”. He was passed over for promotion. So I offer the following as seed acronyms: CPA = Cut and Paste Artist ADP = Awful Damn Pathetic IBM = I’ve Been Moved Then for those of you old enough to remember, “LSMFT” This is a family friendly web site so …. |

Quote:
Speaking of acronyms, political institutions here such as cities, federal and provincial governments are so stupid in their choices that their names, or whatever acronym serves as their names, become total garble. And try as I might, I can never remember them. Isn't it defeating the purpose? I always thought that they were supposed to be meant as a memory retention aid. |

I always thought (until like 2 years ago) that the S.C.A., Society for Creative Anachronism, was the Society for Creative Acronyms. Was always (seriously) confused why reenactors used that for their name.
Having been (technically still am) a SysAdmin for quite awhile in my life, acronyms were a necessary evil. -MJ |
