original Paperwhite - no sync to Amazon after Jailbreak and downgrade of firmware

Dear forum

I have the original Paperwhite with which I wanted to use my own fonts. For this I downgraded the firmware to a version which still allowed this and also jailbroke it so I could install a hack that prevents automatic upgrade of the firmware.

This works well so far only the device doesn't sync with Amazon any longer. So it's basically a paperweight now.

As I don't remember exactly which things and versions I installed I wonder if I could quickly check common mistakes I might have made before I upgrade the firmware and repeat the whole process again. Contrary to what many people do I did not install a new shell. Just downgraded, jailbroke and installed said hack to keep it downgraded.

You need minimum 5.6.1.1 firmware for the original Paperwhite (5th generation per Amazon nomenclature) to connect to Amazon.

Jailbreak is persistent after you update. Another good thing is downgrade is always possible so you can always rejailbreak if needed. Can't remember all the steps anymore. Just check out the various tutorials relevant to your device.
