Probably because It has no visible representation. Maybe it could be in the Layout actions menu.

Layout actions doesn't display the shortcuts for the Toggle actions in its menu… IMO it should, it's how users get to know they exist. I know some users don't like seeing them, the solution to that could be a tweak - to hide them in menus.

Curious: if you display your BD in a detached window, what happens when you start tapping Tab through those elaborate composite columns… just wondering?

I agree it might be better to have the Toggle action for narrow/wide in Layout Actions menu.

As to the BD detached window question, i can't answer at the moment, as I'm having Calibre compress my FTS db.

I had to interrupt the process.

Well, tabbing through the detached window will jump through all *link* formatted fields, so it skips the text columns, however if the Author Bio contains any links, tab works through them as well... I'm not a regular user of the detached BD but it's great that it can contain a different set of fields displayed.

Forgot to answer this. (I hope @chaley won't be annoyed by us derailing the main topic)

Calibre has been evolving rapidly lately performance-wise so I decided to just try whatever custom columns I may want to settle down with, then on a second phase I might remove what's redundant or superfluous.

I run it on a quite fast SSD despite my mobo limitation to PCIe 3.0 so it's been running pretty fast so far.

My 'Main' is on spinning rust. You rarely need Drive performance for everyday Calibre tasks.
The DB is loaded into in memory.
The rest is just on demand (Edit, Send, ...) per book .
Only In book searches need drive thru put

I've exaggerated a bit of course.

But nevertheless, with all my "columns built from other columns" and template stuff, I have to wait a bit until some actions are finished.

But I should take a closer look at some templates, because thanks to chaley, you and others I have noticed some improvements.

IMO many operations require Calibre to access file system, such as Bulk Adding/Converting/Removing formats, changing Title or Author... so HDDs will significantly underperform at those

And how often do you do a massive BULK operation?

A name change is a directory entry, the files do not move.

Conversion is a number crunch task. RAM and CPU. Read the book into RAM, crunch, write.

Delete is another Directory operation (The files are still really there until you empty trash AND compact the drive)

Been wrangling Hard drives a looong time. (I had 8 sets of these on the floor. The front is the controller. Each box is 2G and 2000lbs)

Ah yes; the dear old 3380's. The fun discussions I had with my previous boss when I transferred to a new data center in the same company, and went from a mixed environment of 3330's and 3350's, to 3380's. His concern was the lack of non removable storage. I remember the joys of a standalone, single volume, 3330 based MVS system which could be used in case of a major mistake.

Suffice it to say I could have used one, the day I got a JCL error in MSTRJCL00 (I think).

Question:

Code:
program:

	if
		readgoal() in $#admintags
	then ''
	else
		$#rggenres
	fi
readgoal():

Code:
program: strcat('readinggoal:', format_date(today(), 'yyyy'))
I made this to clear a specific column if there's a readinggoal:2025.

However, if there's another readinggoal: tag (example: readinggoal:2020) alongside the 2025 tag, I want to not clear it.

How do I do this?

If it helps they range from 2020-2024.

You want to remove the value from a column if there is a specific tag but not another tag similarly formed? I think you can do this with list_count_matching('readinggoal:202'). If it returns 1 then there is only one such tag. You would then need to be sure that the one tag is the one you want.

I'm not clear about what you are trying to do, so I can't get more precise.

Using list_intersection might be a way forward. That would tell you whether more than one readinggoal:... tag is in the list. This works because the tags have known values, no regexp is required.
