How does this device generate page numbers?

I'm using one of the Netronix clones, the Airis EB001 with the Booq OS version 2.2.

My previous reader, a Sony PRS-500, calculated the page numbering the first time you changed to a given text size, so the logical page number displayed always match the physical page you were viewing.

In the case of the Netronix, at least with books in ePub format, it always maintain the same page numbering for any text size, which is a bit confusing, since with a big font you can pass various physical pages before the logical page number changes.

In addition to that, what makes it more annoying is that I cannot find the way it calculates where a page ends and a new one starts, except for the case where a page or chapter break were present on the ebook, of course.

I've tried to edit the ePub with Sigil to look at the HTML code and see if there is something there, in the middle of a paragraph, saying that there should start a new page, but nothing at all.

Does somebody knows anything about the internals of the page numbering on the Netronix?

The page numbers are the same for all Adobe Digital Editions devices. The algorithm is complicated, from Adobe's EPUB Best Practices Guide:

The approach used is the following:
• Determine a compressed byte length of each resource which is referenced in the spine, subtracting any known encryption overhead (IV size)
• Assume that there is a page for each 1024 bytes in each resource, rounding up to the nearest whole number of pages for each resource
• To map page breaks into a resource, use the number of pages for the resource as determined in step 2, count the number of Unicode characters in the resource; distribute synthetic page breaks in the resource evenly between the characters by dividing the number of characters by the number of pages; if the number of characters don’t divide evenly among the pages, round the number of characters per page up and let the last “page” contain less characters than the rest.

Pfff... what a mess and an unrealistic way of assign page numbers. I like much more the Sony's way. I guess that this is one of the things that distinct the cheap gadgets from the expensive.

With EPUB Sony does it the same way as everybody else that uses Adobe mobile reader except Sony does include a subpage after a dash. The number of subpages vary with font size. Most other readers don't have the subpages although some may.
