The link knc1 posted (both of them) are broken.
Clicking just leads you through the same two or three pages, never comes close to the security update package. Hmm... I only checked the USA Amazon site, maybe one of the other country sites do not have the web page error(s). Somebody check Amazon.de or the one for there own country. What we need is the "Amazon Services Update" for the K4 that was posted March of last year. The package only makes "universal" changes, it will be the same regardless of what country it comes from. |

Checked both .co.uk and .de websites - the same content, the same links.

Try this link.
https://www.amazon.com/gp/help/custo...deId=202048000 The link you need is the 4.13 that says transfer via USB. Click the transfer. It can't hurt. |

This link does not have links with 'Transfer'.

The description you give above (from a different page) **should** go to the March update package, but it does not, it goes to the regular firmware update page. |

Yes I did. Everything works correct in this regard - syncing, purchasing of books.

On Monday, contact Amazon again and ask about security certificates. Make sure you call between 8AM and 12 pm or 1 pm to 5 pm Pacific Daylight Time. |

So I contacted Amazon again. This time, it took longer time to explain them that it is not about Software Update, but certificates. The conversation ended up with the 'official' explanation that 'Kindle 5 Non-Touch is a legacy device that Amazon does not support in full', so there should be no other changes expected to system files whatsoever.
OK. Meanwhile I found by accident THIS. Spoiler:
On the first page of our thread arifunke tried to change the certificates manually. I pulled Kindle's certificates file /etc/ssl/certs/ca-certificates.crt, opened it and followed the website at the top. The files there are in .pem format, however, from inside their structure looks the same as in Kindle's .cert files, with BEGIN-END notation. Now question: how do we pull all these pieces of information together to update Kindle's certificates? |

One solution given to me was to copy updated certificates from a Linux Firefox installation. Would this no longer work? I'll check I may still have a copy of the update... Um... Somewhere... Any hints on what strings to search for?
