Openinkpot for the Cybook Gen3

Hi,

According to this:
http://workflowepub.com/3632/open-in...r-ereaders.php
it is possible... but has anybody tried it - or should I be the first?

JSWolf: the link works ok for me...

lunohod: I tried the oi-netronix-eb600-live-xxxxxx.zip download but could not get it to work.

I'm not sure if my Cybook is supported, it's a CYBGEN310B with an ARM920T chip.

What does 'about' page say about the hardware? OI might run on a 400MHz cpu, but if you've got ony 32Mb RAM you should adjust the start script boot-oi.sh like that:

insmod $DIR/reloaded_2.6.18/reloaded.ko kernel=$DIR/zImage initrd=$DIR/initrd.gz cmdline="mem=32M root=/dev/ram console=ttySAC0,115200" >> $DIR/boot.log.txt 2>&1

lunohod, thanks for the reply.

Unfortunately, the "about" page gives no indication of how much ram is available.

The start-up script boot-oi.sh is:
Code:
#!/bin/sh
DIR=/mnt/mmc/openinkpot
mount /mnt/mmc -o remount,rw
for i in $DIR/reloaded*.ko; do insmod $i kernel=$DIR/vmlinuz-2.6.37-eb600 initrd=$DIR/initrd.gz >> $DIR/boot.log.txt 2>&1; done
dmesg > $DIR/dmesg.txt
so I'm unsure as to how to implement your suggestion.

Just add cmdline="mem=32M root=/dev/ram" after "...initrd=$DIR/initrd.gz":

Code:
for i in $DIR/reloaded*.ko; do insmod $i kernel=$DIR/vmlinuz-2.6.37-eb600 initrd=$DIR/initrd.gz cmdline="mem=32M root=/dev/ram" >> $DIR/boot.log.txt 2>&1; done
Btw, is there a boot.log.txt in the openinkpot directory after trying to boot OI?

lunohod,

Still no luck, I'm afraid.
I did as you suggested but the device refuses to boot into openinkpot.
There is no boot.log.txt in the openinkpot directory at all.

Maybe it doesn't execute update_kernel. Maybe the Bookeen has implemented another way to update the firmware.

lunohod - funny you should say that!

My last upgrade from Bookeen followed these steps:

Quote:
Our technical team has worked on a way to upgrade the Cybook without using a SD card.

First of all you need to download the firmware upgrade and change the name of the update kernel file for: cybook_upgrade

Then, we invite you to follow this procedure:

1) The Cybook has to be well charged

2) Connect the device to a computer via the USB cable

3) Turn it on; the connected screen appears

4) Copy the Cybook_upgrade at the root of the Cybook (beside the folders “ebooks”, “pictures”…)

5) Once the file is in the Cybook, take the USB cable off. The installation of the firmware upgrade has to begin.

6) After about 2 minutes the light of the device flashes, wait a little bit.

7) Push the reset button (the device turns off and the light as well)

8) Plug back the USB cable and switch the Cybook on

9) Access the internal memory of the Cybook. The Cybook_upgrade file must have disappeared. If it is not the case, delete it.

10) Disconnect the Cybook, wait until the library appears

11) Congratulations! Your Cybook has been upgraded.
I just assumed that the SD card method would still work - and that is what I have been trying with OI.

So, I'm thinking, should I (1) keep the SD card with OI and rename update_kernel to cybook_upgrade or (2) move the openinkpot folder & cybook_upgrade into the root folder?

I'll try (1) first and see what happens...

Well, neither of those worked.

With the openinkpot folder in the main device I opened a terminal and ran ./boot-oi.sh - this was the result:

Quote:
CYBOOK GEN3/openinkpot$ sudo ./boot-oi.sh
[sudo] password for kino:
mount: can't find /mnt/mmc in /etc/fstab or /etc/mtab
./boot-oi.sh: 4: cannot create /mnt/mmc/openinkpot/boot.log.txt: Directory nonexistent
./boot-oi.sh: 5: cannot create /mnt/mmc/openinkpot/dmesg.txt: Directory nonexistent
Should I change the DIR=/mnt/mmc/openinkpot to DIR=/openinkpot ??
