Again at $2.99 - links below are still good. Now the next-to-last in the series, though, since The Color of Fear came out in 2017.

Quote:
Elena Jarvis is an officer committed to her duty at the Los Santos, Texas, Department of Crimes Against Persons. Not that anyone is helping her there, not when her ex-husband is in the next room, her boss treats her like a little girl and her partner thinks women shouldn't leave the kitchen. Elena always knew there would be obstacles in her job; she just figured they would come from the criminals. When an erotic poet accuses his ex-wife, Sarah, of trying to murder him with an exploding escargot, Elena has doubts of the reality of the crime. But the more she learns about their nasty divorce, the more she begins to side with Sarah, until she finds the poet's body decaying in a bathtub filled with more than just water. Before the acid eats away all the evidence, Elena must put aside her sympathies for the victimized ex-wife and get down to the bare bones of this murder before someone else becomes the next victim.

Paul Doherty's most popular series character returns. Hugh Corbett is about to take up a life of danger once again in the nineteenth novel in his series and the follow up to DARK SERPENT. If you love historical mysteries from Robin Hobb, Susanna Gregory, Michael Jecks, Peter Tremayne and Bernard Knight, you will love this.

1296: King Edward I has led his army to Scotland, determined to take the country under his crown. But the fierce Scots have no intention of submitting to their oppressor and violent and bloody war breaks out.

1311: Sir Hugh Corbett, Keeper of the Secret Seal, finds himself back in Scotland and is revisited by the horrors he witnessed there fifteen years ago.

An anonymous letter was delivered to the new king. It promised information about a fatal incident that could allow England to finally bow out of the war with the Scots. Tasked with finding out the truth about the murder, Corbett is forced to take risks he would rather avoid and put his faith in the words of strangers.

But with an unknown traitor lurking in the shadows and danger around every corner, will Corbett be able to unravel the complex web of plots in time?

The Open Road sales are usually really brief, like a day or less. Conversations shows up for me now priced at $6.15, so it won't show up via my link, which restricts by price, and $6.15 is above the max price I allowed for.

The good news is that, even if Open Road sales are usually brief, they happen often (in the US), so keep checking, and it should go on sale again sometime not too far in the future...

Walking Shadow is about halfway through Robert B. Parker's Spenser series. It has dropped to $1.99 at Kindle and Kobo US.

Kindle US: https://www.amazon.com/Walking-Shado...dp/B005F4AU7O/
Kobo US: https://www.kobo.com/us/en/ebook/walking-shadow-1

Quote:
A murder draws Boston PI Spenser into the dramatic world of theater in this New York Times bestseller in Robert B. Parker’s long-running series.

In a shabby waterfront town, an actor is shot dead onstage. Granted, the script left much to be desired. But there's more behind the scenes than an overzealous critic—and Spenser and Hawk are combing Port City’s underworld to find it...

“Great fun...[Spenser] is still the cockiest and wittiest P.I. on the block.”—The New York Times

Fear Familiar is the first in the Black Cat romantic suspense series by Carolyn Haines, who is, I think, much better know for her Sarah Booth Delaney/Southern Belle mystery series. I debated whether to put this in the romance thread or the mystery thread, but in the end, SYKM lists it, so I went with mystery. Fear is free right now at Kindle US.

link: https://www.amazon.com/Fear-Familiar...dp/B06XRPCFZ1/

Spoiler:
Quote:
When Eleanor Duncan rescues the unusual black cat from a university parking lot, she suspects he has run through at least eight of his lives. But it’s his ninth, and potentially last, that concerns her most. Alarming events appear to have followed him into her life. Eleanor is assaulted by a stranger and interrogated by the CIA. More terrifying is her husband’s seeming return from the dead.

A trip to veterinarian Peter Curry reveals an even deeper secret. Familiar is an escaped research animal. The secret he carries opens the door to conspiracy, danger, and romance. Peter and Eleanor are determined to save the black cat’s life and prevent his return to the lab. Their decision to help Familiar turns their world upside down—and begins the saga of Familiar, the black cat detective.

Familiar Trouble, also by Haines, is the first in the Familiar Legacy series, which features the son of the cat protagonist in the Black Cat series above. It is not listed in SYKM, but is published by the same press that SYKM considered acceptable for the Black Cat series, so I'm going ahead and including it in this post. Trouble is also free right now at Kindle US.

link: https://www.amazon.com/Familiar-Trou...dp/B072MPCVV2/

Spoiler:
Quote:
BLOOD IS THICKER... Sometimes a unique talent is inherited—and such is the case for Trouble, son of Familiar the black cat detective. Trouble’s rather indolent life in the sleepy town of Wetumpka, Alabama is upended when a serial killer arrives on the scene. Trouble begins to apply the skills he learned from his dad and his hero, Sherlock Holmes.

When local bookseller Tammy Lynn is attacked at the site of an impact crater, Trouble realizes he must protect his human and solve the mystery of the Silk Stocking Killer.

Aiden Waters, a local deputy, has tracked the SSK to Wetumpka. Since his wife’s murder, Aiden won’t risk romance, but when Tammy is endangered, everything changes. Especially their hearts.

Dorchester Terrace is the 27th in Anne Perry's Charlotte and Thomas Pitt series. It has dropped to $1.99 at Kindle and Kobo US.

Kindle US: https://www.amazon.com/Dorchester-Te...dp/B005EGXTC6/
Kobo US: https://www.kobo.com/us/en/ebook/dor...mas-pitt-novel

Spoiler:
Quote:
“[A] magic kingdom of Victorian murder and intrigue.”—The New York Times Book Review

Thomas Pitt is now the powerful head of Britain’s Special Branch, and some people fear that he may have been promoted beyond his abilities. His own self-doubt is fueled by rumors of a plot to blow up connections on the Dover-London rail line, on which Austrian duke Alois Habsburg is soon to travel. But why destroy an entire train to kill one obscure Austrian royal? Are the rumors designed to distract police from an even more devastating plot? Meanwhile, in a London sickroom, an old Italian woman is terrified that as she sinks into dementia, she may divulge secrets from her career as a revolutionary spy. And behind the doors of a stately manor, a beautiful young Croatian woman hoards mysteries of her own. Pitt and his clever wife, Charlotte, need these two fascinating women to tell them things they desperately need to know—before death and terror ignite an international catastrophe.

Includes a preview of Anne Perry’s next Charlotte and Thomas Pitt novel, Midnight at Marble Arch.

“The always clever Anne Perry infuses Dorchester Terrace with the right amount of intrigue and complex relationships that have made this prolific series one of the finest in modern mystery fiction.”—Bookreporter

“A classic . . . [a] novel of intrigue, romance and treason . . . replete with well-drawn characters.”—Huntington News

Davis Dresser is probably best known as the original author of the Mike Shayne series, written using the pen name, Brett Halliday. Per SYKM, he also wrote using the pen name, Asa Baker, and one of his titles using that name is The Kissed Corpse, which has dropped to $2.99 at Kindle US.

Spoiler:
Quote:
When an author finds his friend murdered, he calls on hardboiled cop Jerry Burke to track down the killer

In a lonely canyon high above El Paso, a ruthless millionaire and a hardline socialist live side by side. Raymond Dwight makes money mercilessly and Leslie Young hates the rich with a passion, but the men have coexisted peacefully—so far. But when Western novelist Asa Baker escapes to Young’s cabin for a weekend of writing, he can sense tension in the air. His friend has always muttered about tossing a few bombs at Dwight’s estate, but his jokes have stopped being funny. Baker has seen enough bloodshed to know that there is murder on the horizon.

When he finds Young dead on the floor, a strange mark on his cheek, Baker calls the only man who can help: Jerry Burke, the toughest cop in El Paso. In the shadowy corners of this Texas canyon lie secrets that someone will kill to protect—and Burke is the only man daring enough to uncover the truth.
