Another attempt done; this time I used a "canal system", if you will, working from Library A through Library B to Library C, only transferring from B to C if B worked as expected.

Library C still broke.

This was the decisive hint.

While my external drive did not turn up any errors, I nonetheless attempted to cobble together my library on my computer directly rather than on the disk drive.

Full Text Search seems to work fine, and the library no longer breaks.

It's a bummer, but I guess I'll make do. Thanks!
