Is this screen normal?

My new Kobo Sage has at least 2-3 pinholes on arrival. I don't see them at all on normal screen mode, but on night mode they show up as light dots.

How common is that? Is there a decent chance that a replacement device won't have any of these pixels?

Another issue is the weird screen. See attached image. Unlike my old Kindle, the screen seems to have a very fine texture. The texture is permanent, unrelated to refresh. It looks to me like e-ink particles that are permanently stuck. I don't mind it much, but again, I want to make sure I didn't receive a dud, because it makes the screen quite a bit gray.

Thanks

I'd be more concerned about the 'fuzziness' visible on the right of your enlarged area. That doesn't look sharp at all. When you have words in that area, are the letters as sharp as on the rest of the screen?

It's not fuzzy, that's just the photo. The screen is sharp all over, its just that the screen is visibly grey and in some areas every grayer, because of this weird texture. It's not very noticeable, but I'm not sure its normal either.

Maybe Kobo is introducing a new "textured" look to its screen renderings to better give us that paper feeling!

But, seriously, I don't see anything like that on my Sage. I can't get as nice a photo as you did and my contrast doesn't seem to be anywhere near yours, but here's what I see.
