FWIW, i installed latest hot fix 1.6 after i had installed 1.4 to see if pw12 works, and now the hot fix gives application error when it didn't before. Tried kual (coplate 2025) and that doesn't work either.

Heads up
There is an issue in versions of the hotfix earlier than v1.8.0 which may cause bricks

Please do update

Just here to report success with winterbreak & the 1.8 hotfix on my Kindle Paperwhite 5. Currently stuck on installing kual coplate but looks like we may have to wait for a fix for that. Thank you developers! I've been following this since I got my kindle last year and I am very happy to have KOReader in my hands very soon! 2025 will be a great year for reading

This is the file I was provided that installed KUAL on my 12th Gen

Use that in this step of the Tutorial:

In the KUAL file you downloaded, open it and locate the Update_KUALBooklet_*_install.bin and copy it into the mrpackages folder on the Kindle
Attached Files
File Type: bin Update_KUALBooklet_ALLDEVICES_install.bin (52.1 KB, 282 views)

To get KOReader working on 12th gen I needed to use a device.lua and put in koreader/frontend/device/kindle
Attached Files
File Type: gz device.tar.gz (15.1 KB, 983 views)

Trying to apply..

In the part of installing the kual is the one I'm stuck on.
Which Kual do I have to install the coplate or the other one?
My kindle is the signature edition
Kindle Paperwhite (11th generation)
with the Update_KUALBooklet_ALLDEVICES_install.bin I've managed to get the kual to appear and the menu to appear, but I don't run any koreader.
I guess in my case the koreader is:
koreader-kindlepw2-v2024.11-116-g2b5915177_2025-01-01.zip
If it's this one then it doesn't work for me at all.
Let's see if someone has managed to get it to work.
I'm also not sure if I'm getting the whole procedure right.
I follow the steps and well I get to these points. I think the update_KualBooklet is the one I'm failing at or I don't know.
Also when I restart it doesn't show me that I have the jalibreak should it appear?

You need to download a KOReader nightly HF build, earlier posts talk about this.

Thanks for the KUAL file that worked great! I am on 11th gen paperwhite and I downloaded from the nightly koreader found earlier in the thread. First I tried to run it via KUAL but it seems to attempt to launch then crashes. I tried with your file replacement and it seems to do the same thing? Did I miss something?

Hello. First of all, many thanks for the jailbreak! I got my PW5 2 years ago and now I can finally run KOReader on it.

I successfully jailbroken it with hotfix V1.2.0 and it works perfectly on PW5 with FW 5.17.1. Is it necessary for me to also update the hotfix? Do I risk bricking it by updating/not updating?

Can somebody help? I was trying to install winterbreak on my kindle. I copied the files, made sure I was in airplane mode, restarted the device, clicked on the store, disabled airplane mode, and clicked on the winterbreak option. A few seconds passed and some text was in the corner of the screen. It then told me to install the hotfix. I downloaded it from "https://github.com/KindleModding/Hotfix/releases/tag/v1.8.0". I plugged my kindle back into my pc, put the file in, and it then the kindle told me the file was not valid, and then deleted it. I also tried the previous release that restarted your device, and then had you install the hotfix, but still no dice. I also tried resetting my kindle and retrying, but it still fails. I am running firmware "5.17.1.0.4", and my device is a "Kindle (11th generation, 2024 Release)". If it is relevant, I purchased the kids version, as it came with a cover. Any help would be appreciated.

my kindle pw 5 is already jailbroken (fw 5.16.2.1.1) with language break. i am considering doing this newer one, as I saw people saying that the new firmware is snappier, those who have update from around 5.16.2.1.1 can they give some input
