My KC got updated to 5.18.1 accidently
Now KUAL wont open
Hotfix, I am able to reinstall
Then I recopied the MRPI
Then I reinstalled the KUAL bin file
and ran the ;log mrpi in search
then I try to open the KUAL file, gives me a error stating - Application error'

What step am I missing

Do we need to update the jailbreak files sometimes? I have succesfully installed JB on my Papperwhite Kindle (11th gen) and even installed 15.8.1 when it released.
But I see now that there is an update for Winterbreak, so is there any need to update for example hotfix, KUAL or MRPI files?

I update Koreader from time to time from the app itself

See message #633 in this thread for what I did after a manual update to 5.18.1.

Interesting if this works on PW4, it does not work on PW6. I can copy the hotfix, I get the option to update, but then on reboot/tree screen, there is a message about a problem while updating and it backs out and reboots. The update file is renamed and the hotfix was not reapplied.

Here is a link to the KOReader support case where I found this issue documented for KOReader's case of this problem, and buried in it is a link to a version of fbink that works on the kindle signature 12th gen. Replacing the version that sits in MR Installer's extensions/MRInstaller/bin/KHF directory with the updated version resolves this issue.

I can't register it, it's the so-called "OFFLINE edition".
In the instruction for WinterBreak say it must be registered.
Is there any way to jailbreak it?

Hello. Newbie here. Apologies ahead of time here lol. Apparently I am officially old now. I tried to jailbreak my kindle last night for the first time. Did the steps and got the "Unexpected Error" message. Tried the steps to fix it as listed on Kindlemodding. I kept getting that same message though. What am I doing wrong? Talk to me like I'm 5. lol

Out of curiosity, what is an "OFFLINE edition"? Blacklisted as stolen or lost?

And WinterBreak requires a registered Kindle.

most likely it means "stolen", not necessarily by OP though, not accusing anyone. Lots of "OFFLINE" editions flooding eBay.

One acquaintance of mine purchased a Kindle Oasis from a lost and found sale. It works happily but the person who lost it reported the loss to Amazon and so it can't be registered.

Even new in box Kindles that had delivery issues can end up as blacklisted.

Hi everyone,

I'm trying to jailbreak my Kindle 10th Gen (2019, Basic model) running firmware 5.16.3 using WinterBreak.

Here's what I've done so far:

Confirmed my Kindle model and firmware are compatible (no prior jailbreak).

Downloaded the latest WinterBreak zip from the official GitHub release.

Extracted it using winrar (not Windows Explorer).

Ejected the Kindle safely.

Rebooted the Kindle before trying.

Opened Kindle Store, tapped on the WinterBreak icon.

Wi-Fi was on and stable (not using a hotspot anymore).

After tapping the WinterBreak icon, the Kindle shows:


"**** WinterBreak JAILBREAK ****"
and freezes indefinitely it never reboots, even after waiting 5+ minutes.

I've tried:

Factory reset

Recopying the files from a freshly downloaded zip.

Testing with different USB ports and cables.

Minimal device load (no books or background downloads ongoing).

No success yet.

Question:

- Is there anything else I can try?

- Has anyone else experienced freezes specifically at this stage on 5.16.3?

Realy I dont know what this mean. There are a lot of sellers in our country (Ukraine) with propositions "offline" books. I bought a new, packed book. How can I check if the book stolen or some other problem?
