Hello thanks for the detailed reply. How far can the Libre 2 go? Is it able to go further than default?

And if so would this request then go in the kobopatch thread?

Thank you

Not sure if this will ever be seen, but I would absolutely love if multi-user support could be integrated into the UI somehow. With different books and progress for each user.

Has anyone already suggested a "B&W" mode on the Libra Colour?

Basically, it would turn your Libra Colour on a sort of Libra 3 with 300ppp all the time.

I mean, the hardware can do it, the software could be able to do it.

A lot of people chose the Libra Colour for the 7'' screen and the button more than for the Colour. Actually, I really thought it was possible to "turn off" the colour feature before buying the ereader.
But hey, how could anyone from Kobo listen to us ?

The problem is that the colour layer is located above the B&W layer, so the screen will still dim and grainy.

The software cannot change the physical properties of the screen, doesn't matter how nicely you ask.

Notice the color filter between the microcapsules and the human user -- that's not completely transparent, even when off and not in use.

Request importing images to annotate in notebook mode

Currently in Elipsa 2e (and i imagine libra color as well) there is no way to annotate images and the way pdf annotation is done is very simple.

I have tried exporting a ".nebo" both with an embedded PDF and image using my phone (android). The workflow was like this: export .nebo from phone to google drive and try to load it from the reader.

As others have done before, I was not able to import the pdf. however with image I was able to import it. the image showed. Also a wrong page size is used (probably small due to mobile screen)

Strokes on top of the image was not shown. switching the pages then forces it to render correctly.

Seems to me it is possible (or maybe work on progress?). Would be happy seeing it working.

Supporting pdf would be also nice in note taking mode. (probably already a feature requested by others)

Does anyone from Kobo/Rakuten look at this thread? Or is this just a dream thread for us here in MR? If there is someone from Kobo who reads these posts, I would request that dark mode extends across the whole UI, not just inside the books so that I can see the home screen, collections, dictionary and other UI aspects using the dark mode (but not the covers inverted).

This is mostly a dream. Kobo might look at it but if they do they never comment

not sure but they might working on it. there is an developer option called "invert screen". i recently enabled it but it does not worked properly. the latest update fixed it and now it can invert the UI colours too. of course it is not the same like a dark theme but we are now closer.

Can I play too?

How about internal OCR/auto-convert PDF to epub/kepub? I'm thinking:
"Would you like to view this PDF as if it were an epub?"
and then:
"Now that you have finished the book, if there were no important errors, would you like to delete the original PDF and keep the epub/kepub version?"

on that note, how about epub editing? You'd have the option to highlight and replace text in the book. Kinda like annotations, but they would be incorporated as actual text in the document; not side-notes.

*Crosses out "Milwuuueakee" in the book and replaces it with "Milwaukee". The change is saved as a replacement page but still treated internally as an annotation.

Why not make annotations a footnote on the page itself?

Option to view the book as 300ppi B&W/16 color grayscale (Libre 2 Mode). I don't need color for some of my books and would happily trade 150ppi color for that sharper 300ppi B&W.

Ability to clip-art parts of the screen.

A REAL WEB BROWSER!

I can think of more, but that's enough for now.

Disclaimer: I love my Libre Color, but it's far from perfect.

Folders!

My #1 complaint is that my Kobo screen is cluttered with a million books. How nice it would be if instead I just saw folders.

How about a function to create folder icons categories? If that were the case, my "books" screen would only have like 10 folder icons and X number of unsorted books on it instead of a million book covers.

Not sure what you are talking about... The Home screen on my Sage has 4 currently being read books and 3 books each in the My Books and Finished collection. About 0.001% of a million books. The Books view shows 5 books on the screen.

As for books folders? Given the search capability of a Kobo reader, let's not drag the functionality back to the 1970s with folders and a file browser. And when you tap on one of those folders? Do you see a few thousand books in the folder? A mass of subfolders? If you are truly in love with the idea of having a folder structure, you could always install KOReader or Plato on your KLC.

At one point in time from ~25 years ago, I did maintain my ebook library in a directory structure. Then I discovered calibre. It's sort and search capability was such a time saver compared to my old directory structured library. No more trying to figure out a directory structure that would allow me to easily locate a book with multiple authors. No more trying to fit series into a directory structure. No more wasting my time on maintaining a more and more complex structure.

Currently I have about 5500 books on my Sage and I can find any author, title, series, etc. with a minimal number of characters in the search screen.

Looking back at your previous message, most of the functions you seem to want are better served on a computer with more memory, storage space and CPU power compared to an ereader. You can screenshot but that would be the entire screen. Copy that to your computer and use the graphics program of your choice. Again your real web browser comes with a need for CPU and memory which better fits a computer than an eInk reader. Try looking at the memory use of a web browser (your choice of Chrome, Safari, Edge, Firefox, etc.) on your computer which says on your Kobo ereader, you are going to need a lot more memory.

Same. I do use collections on my Kobos, but I don't need to maintain them - they're created and managed automatically by Calibre.

Maybe you should try KOReader. It uses folders instead of metadata.
