iLiad permanent rebooting

Hi everyone, friends!

I've faced with a problem of permanent iLiad's reloading after the fbreader installation. It seems like the startup script is trying to launch smth after the rebooting...
I've ever performed a reflash from CF card and with firmware ver 2.10 the device was loaded sucessfully. But as soon as the device has been updated to the ver 2.12 from iRex service via Internet - it's hunged up in the first loading and all following mandatory reloading are cycled
...like some script file has been started due to the functionality of the firmware ver 2.12...

collegues, what could you advice for that case?

I'm afraid I don't understand... It's rebooting automatically after it boots? How far does it get in the booting process? Is it trying to connect to the IDS? What is shown on the screen?

Hello, Adam

yes, it's rebooting automatically and taking the normal period of time as usual.
In the case of IDS connect - it's connecting succesfully. But just after update it begins to reboot again (as soon the progress bar filled completely - the screen turns to white and after that the device starts reloading once again)...
In other word this behaviour appears just after upgrading to the 2.12 firmware version. With the 2.10 version the booting is normal...

thanks in advance

It sounds like something during the upgrade is failing and the device is stuck in a loop. You probably need to contact iRex about it.

Shaggy, I've updated this device to the 2.12 version some time ago and it was a normal process.
As I can update to the 2.10 version from Cf card - is it possible to trace the bootup process after apgrading to the 2.12 for finding out the source of the problem?

Hi guys I'm having the exact same problem as Acid. Installed FBReader and it went into permanent reboot. Reflashed to 2.10 and it boots normally.
Hit the IDS button to get software upgrade to 2.12 and it just reboots until the battery runs out!
I've tried everything to no avail.
Is there any way to get the 2.12 on to the CF card maybe?

When you reflash, do use use the "format" option in the config.txt?

Not quite sure what that means Adam?

In the config.txt file, the only content is the following:

kernel
initrd
applications

Here is the actual config.txt file attached. What exactly should I edit?

Maybe one of the applications you have running is not 2.12 compatible and needs to be removed before you can finish booting.

Open the file in notepad. Delete everything inside it. Then type "format" (without quotes), save, and reflash.

Thumbs up THANKS A MILLION ADAM B

Thanks Adam for your answer to the rebooting problem, I had this problem after downloading software from the Irex site. I was tearing my hair out trying to find a solution until I read your advice. It worked on my Iliad. In future I will look at this forum if I (God forbid) have anymore problems with Iliad as Irex forum Tech Support take so long to answer. Thanks again.

Adam, does the option "format" restore all config files to their original state?

Yes. It removes all files and reformats the iLiad. Make sure you have backed up all of your books on internal memory as they will be deleted as well.

Adam, thanks at all - it works now indeed
I've just feared to use this "format" function before...
