I would use the reset button in the back of the reader. It should turn off the reader. I would wait a minute then turn it back on. Also, if don't already have a wall charger, buy one. It charges the reader better and faster than the usb lead. You don't even have to use the official Sony charger, a PSP charger works as well.

Certainly try a reset. I've had a the same problem in the past. If that doesn't work, and you have a mains charger, I've found plugging it into the mains and just leaving it revived it overnight.

The one time mine froze, I was able to hold the standby key (or whatever it's called) on the top of the machine, count to about 5, then it reset itself with nothing lost. Also, I strongly recommend as well that you use a wall plug (psp charger) when charging whenever possible.

I had this happen for the first time not too long ago. I've had my 505 since Christmas 2008.

I started pushing buttons and trying to turn it off and on. Nothing worked. I let it set to see if it would do anything. Then I plugged it in to charge it with the wall charger for a couple of hours. Still nothing.

I finally gave up and tried the reset for the first time.

Nothing. I tried the reset and then slid the switch. Nothing. Then about 20 minutes later it was working. I still don't know what happened, but it works.
