How do you get rid of that stupid front page

This has probably been answered before elsewhere, but how do you get rid of that stupid front page with all that nonsense about hours read and recommended etc when opening and closing Aura.
All I want to see when I open my bookreader is the shelves of books, or the book I am currently reading, not all that other waffle.

If you do a "long press" (ie, press and leave your finger for a few seconds) you can dismiss every tile on the Aura home page with the exception of the "Sync" tile.

And some of the techier types here have come up with a way to even get rid of that one.

The ability to remove tiles like that is through the calibre Kobo Utilities plugin.

Look at the Dismiss tiles from new home on Glo or Aura HD option and the option on that option Change database trigger.

These options will not get saved as I want it to be a deliberate decision each time.

And I didn't actually answer the question.

To install the trigger, you have to check the "Change reading status/Change database trigger" checkbox and select the "Create trigger" radio button. The trigger is generated using the tile types selected in the top section (soon to be renamed "Tile types").

If you don't select the trigger options, it just dismisses the current tiles as per the selection.
With the trigger set all the tile classes you have selected will automagically be hidden as soon as they are created.

Thanks All, sorry for the belated response, both options work, but Calibre plugin is best for me, as I already have all my books on Calibre

So strange.. I've done exactly what you say, but it doesn't work. The tiles disappear when I disconnect my Glo, but when I change something like putting a book on a shelve, the tiles come back anyway?

Are you sure you are doing all the steps?

With Kobo attached
  • invoke Kobo Utilities.
  • Select Dismiss Tiles from Home Screen option
  • Select which tiles you don't want to see
  • Select Change database trigger option
  • Select Create or change trigger option
  • Select OK

Eject device

All should be set now.

Yes, those are exactly the steps I've taken, but they return anyway.. I've tried it a couple of times now, so I'm not sure what's going on with my Kobo.

Which tiles is this happening for? And which are you selecting on the Dismiss tiles dialog? What happens if you do a power off and on?

I've selected all the tiles to dismiss, because the only thing I want on my main screen are the books I'm reading. So far, the tiles for shelves return.

I haven't thought about power off and on, but I've tried it now and the shelves tiles still return on the screen.

Is it possible it has something to do with the fact that I have my e-reader standing on 'Dutch'? Because the tiles that return are named 'Boekenkasten' which is Dutch for 'bookshelves.'

I just set my Glo to Dutch here and I didn't have this problem. So, I don't think it is a language issue.

Could I get a look at the database? That way I can see if everything is correct there. Either upload it somewhere and send me a PM with the link, or send me a PM for an email address to send it to.

Thanks for the offer! I'm first going to wait and see if other tiles will come back or not. If that's not the case, I'm just going to stop changing shelves on my e-reader It's not that necessarily to do anyway.

The shelves should also come back when you open a book from them.

Thats the problem that I had until i realised that you do the exact opposite, if you unselect the tiles (ie no tick) then follow the steps they go away. It is a little ambiguous the way it is described.

That is definitely not how it is supposed to work and not how it is working here. The selected tiles, the ones with the tick, are the tiles that get dismissed. If that isn't how it is working for you, can you check the version of the plugin you have, and send me a copy of the database from the device? Send me a PM to get an email address or upload it somewhere and PM the link to me.

Just go into Settings / Reading life and Notifications on the Reader and uncheck everything under Reading Life and Kobo Notifications...
